Reporting Drug Dealers

Should you find that drug activity occurs in your neighborhood, you should take steps to immediately report your concerns and suspicions.  Bear the following in mind when you call the SPD to report drug activity in your area:

  • What specific things/activities lead to your suspicions that drugs are sold in your area?
  • Are you able to identify which drugs are being sold?
  • How long have drug sales or open use of drugs happened in your neighborhood?
  • Have you found any drug paraphernalia around your area?
  • Have you reported the activity before? If so when? Do you keep a Drug Activity log (See Below)?
  • Have you noticed any other types of crime in this same area--assaults, burglaries, threatened neighbors, etc.?
  • What type of buildings are involved-- single-family house, business store front, apartment, etc.?
  • Provide the street number and/or the intersection of the suspected drug-selling location
  • From where on the property are the drugs being sold-- front door, window, alley, etc.?
  • Do you know where the drugs are kept?
  • If you suspect a drug house, how many people live in the house?  How many children?  What might be their ages?
  • Do you know the name of the property owner?
  • Do you know the name of the person suspected of dealing?
  • Have you seen or heard dogs at this site?  How many, what kind, what color(s), etc.?
  • Have you seen or heard guns/gunfire?  Describe how many guns you have seen or heard; be descriptive
  • What type of door/window reinforcements do you see?  Do you notice alarm systems, cameras, high fences, etc.?
  • Have you noticed strange/noxious smells from this location?

Provide the following information about suspected drug dealers and drug buyers:
  • Sex/Gender
  • Age
  • Race
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Build
  • Eye color
  • Hair color
  • Hairstyle
  • Presence of facial hair
  • Glasses/sunglasses
  • Complexion

Provide descriptions of cars/vehicles which may be involved in drug activity in your neighborhood; these cars should be both suspected drug dealers and suspected drug buyers:
  • Exterior and interior color of four-wheeled vehicles

  • Style
  • 2-door or 4-door
  • License number
  • License state
  • Distinctive features
  • If 2-wheeled vehicles, what make and model of the scooter, bicycle, motorcycle?

Document what you observe by keeping a Drug Activity log which will have the following:
  • Times and days of the week suspected activity takes place
  • Number of people involved in suspected activity
  • Are drug deals happening at specific times of day?  Do deals seem to last for certain periods of time?
  • Do cars drive up to the house?  Motorcycles, scooters, bikes?  Do suspected buyers arrive by taxi?
  • Do people walk to the house/location or do they park vehicles and walk to the house/location?
