Reporting Crimes Anonymously

Telephoned crime tips to 9-1-1 or the Seattle Police Department Tip Line (206.233.5000) may be made anonymously; you are never required to leave your name if you're uncomfortable.

SSCPC recognizes that some members of our community may be reluctant to report crimes for fear of retaliation from the suspect(s) and/or being labeled a "snitch."  Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound offers three ways to safely make tips without exposing your identity as Crime Stoppers NEVER requires you to leave your name when you phone in a tip, you send in a tip via the internet, or you send a text message tip.

Telephone calls to the Crime Stoppers hotline number, 1.800.222.TIPS (1.800.222.8477) may be made 7 days a week, 24 hours a day; Caller ID will not be used.  You may provide a tip to the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimestoppers.com by completing their "Web Tip" form; neither your e-mail address nor an IP address will be traced.

People in the Seattle-Metropolitan area, King, Kitsap, Snohomish and Island Counties may send an anonymous/untraceable text to Crime Stoppers by following these steps:

  1. Find the "Messages" option on your cell phone.
  2. Enter the number 274637 (CRIMES) on the "To" line;
  3. Type TIP486 and what you wish to report in the message box/space;
  4. Hit the OK or SEND button.
  5. You'll then receive a reply message which gives you a PIN number and instructions of what to do next--remember this PIN.
  6. Standard text rates may apply.
